My Spanish journey began back in 2005...

Starting to learn Spanish...

I moved to the beautiful island of Lanzarote back in 2005 and quickly decided I wanted to immerse myself in the local way of life - and that meant learning Spanish. At the first class I joined was one created to teach Spanish to foreign students. We were a mixture of German, Italian, Chinese and me, English. There was no “common language” so the lesson was taught fully in Spanish. With the help of miming, drawing and a lot of improvisation they got the message across and slowly we each started to communicate…

Starting to teach Spanish...

Living in Spain meant we could practice hard away from the class, which I did, and loved every moment. I joined a Spanish gym, had Spanish neighbours, so I practiced hard and learned fast. Then one day a friend commented that I “seemed to be doing alright with the language” and would I teach her once a week and in return she’d cook dinner… and that is how the seeds of my teaching career were sown!

Fast forward a few years and I had now taught hundreds of students - people just like me. I’d discovered that I have the patience and flare to help all ages and learning abilities to master the essentials by moving away from the stuffy old-school methods and replacing them with a FUN learning environment and support materials. I LOVE IT!

Moving online...

When the pandemic hit and face-to-face classes were not an option, it was a case of adapting and moving with the changing times, so learning moved online. The concept has worked well, enabling students to participate wherever they are based and we quickly learned that ‘online learning’ was just as much fun. In recent times I have started to develop more online activities and learning tools, most recently with ‘Virtual’ lessons for students who can’t make the regular classes or prefer to study independently.

It’s all a learning journey and who knows where the next stage of my story is heading? I hope you will join me on that journey...
